DMR stands for designated marksman rifle. Basically, it's a combination of a standard assault rifle and a sniper rifle. It gives the user accuracy at a greater distance than standard rifles, but doesn't require as much distance as a sniper rifle in the terms of engagement. It also allows the user to fire at a semi-automatic rate instead of the bolt action rate of a sniper rifle. It can also allow the user the freedom to choose between the stock sites on a rifle or a scope, biped legs for added accuracy and reduced recoil, and some even have a retractable stock (depending on the rifle used).
